BLVD

Fusing live instruments with electronic production techniques, BLVD brings their audiences a refined and progressive musical experience while continuing to break down boundaries between the dance club culture and the live music community.

While whipping up crowds across North America with their genre-bending fusion of rock, hip-hop and electro, San Francisco based BLVD has positioned itself as a new champion of the live electronic movement. After playing the largest indoor New Years party in the US alongside Bassnectar & Thievery Corporation, the band spent this past spring recording their latest album with producer Jeff Saltzman (The Killers, Two Gallants, Fischerspooner, The Black Keys). After two performances at Canada’s Shambhala Festival and a headlining set at Summer Meltdown, BLVD will close out the summer at Earthdance. Highlights of their fall tour include a Halloween show with FreQ Nasty and a west coast run with the Disco Biscuits. BLVD will be welcoming 2010 in on the tropical island paradise of Fiji, followed by a January tour in Australia.

As this unconventional mixture of hip-hop and dance rock continues to provide floor-filling fodder for its underground fan base across the US, BLVD is beginning to spark interest from abroad. This is yet another assurance that the band's life affirming message coupled with it's raucous urban mural of sound create an explosive atmosphere with the ability to galvanize any scene.

BLVD Review by JamBase

Fast becoming late set royalty, S.F.'s BLVD turned in one of the day's finest performances and certainly one of the most high energy sets of the entire fest. Built around the octopus armed machinations of Curtis Sloane (electronic guitar, samples), Dylan McIntosh (drums, samples) and Tripp Bains (bass, keys), the instrumental aspects moves with the insistent hump of an after-hours disco, mid-period Parliament, '90s electro punch and other mischievous pre-dawn flavors. Early in their set I found myself discussing how their sustained grooves mirrored the wave-after-wave feel of female orgasm rather than the build-and-explode dynamics of rock's more male energy. Oh, they hit them peaks 'n' valleys for sure but one felt gripped by a tide far bigger than any one number. And they've fully integrated MC Souleye now, a - Hide quoted text - gyrating, rippling force of nature with a flow that recalls young MC Serch and Organized Konfusion. As weary as many of us were you'd never have known it as we bent our frames into funky origami shapes in response to their manipulations. Cool!

Adam was one of the key founders of the UK breakbeat movement. His Coastal Breaks mix series was the first of its kind by many years. He initially was half of 'Tsunami One' , famous for their hit- Hip Hop Phenomenon. Then later formed his own band 'Freeland' and released the debut album " Now & Them'. The main single 'We Want Your soul', with its anti main stream sentiment, hit a chord with many and ironically became a top 40 chart hit in various countries round the world. His remixes of Nirvana (Smells Like Freeland) and White Stripes (Seven Nation Freeland), were the first 'breaks/rock' bootlegs of their kind and have become legendary. He established the highly respected 'Marine Parade' label in 96, responsible, for Evil Nine, Ils, Beber amongst many others and is also one of the most well established and heavily toured DJ's on the planet , he is known for his eclectic taste mixing up, electro house, breaks, rock, psychedelic grunge, Drum & Bass, whatever...just good music.

Souleye, a Colorado based consious-wordsmith MC, believes that music is a true healing art. His choice to perform freestyle and completely improvisational lyrics allow the present audience to participate and be involved in the creation and collective energy of the music. Souleye also brings in a new, fresh fusion of written songs. Much like life, each performance is genuine and can never be replicated, Unafraid to challenge paradigms, Souleye has been bridging gaps and crossing paths between Hip-Hop, Drum & Bass, Electronic, Blue Grass and Funk.

His freestyle abilities allow him to sit in with any bad or DJ, brining along his vibe of sincere energy and love for each performance. Constantly globe trekking in collaboration with artists including Zilla, Bassnectar, The Glitch Mob, Michael Franti, String Cheese, On The One, BLVD and the Everyone Orchestra, you'll find Souleye's schedule to be one of the busiest on the MC scene today.

Whether witnessing his energetic freestyle live or on one of his albums, the Souleye experience is definitely one of both sound and spirit.

DJ Garth

www.grayhound.net
www.myspace.com/garthgrayhound

Garth has been giving San Francisco nightlife the run-around for almost two decades where parties with his stamp are known for easy vibes and jaw-dropping music. Wicked, Come Unity, the Full Moons, Roots & Back2Back have all played their part in sustaining the flames of conscious hell raising that existed here in generations past.

Those lawless full moon beach parties ushered in an era of Acid House hysteria that ripped through the west coast and spread into the heartland. The Wicked crew are credited widely with having kick started the city's dance scene in the early 90's furthering its reputation as the red headed step child of Disco.

Scoring a Tony Andrews designed Turbosound rig, they possed up with a crew of friends from Berkeley, customizing a '47 Greyhound bus whose previous owners were a gospel choir. Thus cocked and loaded Wicked hit the road spreading their own gospel to seekers across the States. They were first to set up renegade sound at festivals like Burning Man & Reggae on the River.

The same bus provided inspiration for Garth's record label. Since '98 Grayhound has released 53 singles documenting an edgier sound of Cali's thriving underground House scene.

His breakout anthem with E.T.I. 'Twenty Minutes of Disco Glory' shook things up internationally and was hailed by Muzik Magazine as one of the best dance singles of '96. Since then he has produced over 40 records under various pseudonyms working alongside Eric James (Rocket), Rob Doten (Crosstown Traffic) or Markie Mark (Wicked) and remixed Faithless, Darryl Pandy, The Glimmers, Dada Munchamonkey, Perry Farrell (Janes Addiction), Yabby You, Robbie Shakespeare and Tribe Called Quest.

He has mix CDs on Om, NRK, Thrive & Grayhound. There have been countless licenses of his co-productions to big name DJ mix CDs by Deep Dish, H-Foundation, Doc Martin & Lee Burridge and his music can be found in two movies - SF rave flick 'Groove' and Gus Van Sant's 'Speedway Junky'.

Today he and collector James Glass are waving the flag for Golden Goose re-edits, raiding their record collections & respectfully placing Disco/Rock obscurities under the knife as King & Hound.

As well as regular guest spots DJing Stateside including Harvey's ThirtyNineHotel out in Hawaii, he plays many of the world's best clubs lugging his vinyl to Japan, Korea, Spain, England, Greece, Portugal, France, Belgium, Germany, Mexico, Canada, Australia, Singapore, even Indonesia & Malaysia, turning parties out upon request.

On the home front in San Francisco he throws celebrated monthly shindig Back2Back with his right-hand man Jeno. Nobody gets hurt.
